The Express Max Game range of hunting cartridges were introduced in 1996 responding to the continual requests for Lyalvale to produce heavier loaded cartridges with reduced recoil. The range consists of two 3 inch (76mm) cartridges manufactured for use in all guns CIP proofed for magnum chambers not less than 76mm. The first being the extra heavy 53gm cartridge available in all shot sizes from AAA to 5. This cartridge is closed with a roll turnover. This closure utilises a fragmentable Acrylic disc which unlike paper card breaks up completely on firing thus ensuring that no obstruction is created when the shot leaves the barrel of the gun. This action ensures that all patterns remain consistent even at the extreme ranges this cartridge was developed for. The second slightly lighter 46gm cartridge was developed for Lyalvale shooters who had feed problems with some brands of Automatic shotgun but did not want to stop using the Express product. Instead of using the roll turnover closure of the 53gm, this cartridge uses the more conventional crimp closure which results in slight loss of shot volume. As with all Express products the use of a unique formulation of lead shot ensures optimum performance and consistent patterns at the longest of ranges. Both these cartridges use clean burning Vectan propellants from SNPE in Brittany, France. All the Vectan powders used are single base to achieve long range kills with reduced recoil. As with all Vectan propellants they have been specially formulated for heavy loads. This formulation allows higher velocities for clean consistent long range kills without the usual increase in recoil normally associated with Magnum cartridges.
