Taipan Slash Information Do and Dont
Taipan Slash Air Rifle important Information with the Do and Don'ts with this gun
The Taipan Slash is a very unique rifle an they are very different in teh way they work to all other Air Rifles.
The Golden Rule to Avoid a Faulty Taipan Slash:
Never pull the trigger BEFORE you start moving the lever.
If you pull the trigger first, the rifle will fire immediately. The correct method is: Pull the lever back, pull the trigger WHILE holding the lever, THEN move the lever forward.
Step-by-Step Correct Decocking Procedure
Preparation (Critical):
- Point the rifle in a safe direction (downrange or into a backstop).
- Disengage the safety (Move to "Fire" position). Per your manual: "can only be decocked with the trigger safety disengaged."
- Push the magazine release rod through the magazine entirely. This ensures the indexing mechanism is disengaged so the rifle doesn't try to rotate to the next pellet during decocking.
The Decocking Motion (The "Slash" Prevention):
- Step 1: With your strong hand on the grip and finger OFF the trigger, use your weak hand to grasp the side lever and pull it fully rearward (as if you were cocking it again). Hold it firmly at the rearmost position.
- Step 2: Keep holding the lever fully back. Now, place your trigger finger on the trigger.
- Step 3: Pull the trigger and hold it to the rear (do not release it yet). You will feel the sear release.
- Step 4: While STILL holding the trigger back, slowly and with full control, guide the lever forward to its initial/closed position. Do not let it snap forward.
- Step 5: Once the lever is fully forward, release the trigger.
Why this avoids a faulty slash:
- If you pull the trigger first (FAULTY): The hammer falls while the lever is forward → the rifle fires a shot into your backstop (unsafe if not prepared) OR it partially resets, causing a jam or half-cock.
- If you let go of the trigger during Step 4 (FAULTY): The sear may re engage mid stroke, leaving the rifle in a partially cocked "slashed" state where the lever is stuck halfway.
Troubleshooting a Jammed Slash (If you already did it wrong):
If you already performed a faulty decock and the lever is stuck halfway:
- Keep muzzle in a safe direction.
- Pull the lever fully rearward again (recock it).
- Start over from Step 1 above – do not try to force the lever forward from halfway.
Summary Checklist for Safe Decock:

Final note from your manual: "Rapid firing can cause the rifle to jam." A faulty decock is essentially a self induced jam. Follow the order above, and you'll never get a stuck lever or an accidental discharge.
